What’s with the blog title?

It’s fairly simple. According to the Mayan creation story, our world has gone through a number of grand cycles (or ages) with each age ending in death and destruction followed by resurrection and rebirth. Based on the Mayan calendar we are now living at the end of the fourth age.

I, among many others, believe that this age will not be our last. I believe that the age, the fifth age, will be far greater than anything we could imagine. Not the end of anything, but the beginning of a new adventure for humanity.

Unfortunately, the natural order demands that before there can be resurrection, there must be death. So there will be troubled times in the next few years. There will be economic, ecological, political, religious, and social turmoil.

Many will not survive. Many believers in the Mayan truths also believe that those who will survive will be those of us in humanity who recognize the trouble to come and prepare themselves to weather these ‘storms’. I will go a step further and posit that that those who will survive will be those of us who not only prepare for the end of this age, but more importantly begin to live our lives today as though we are already citizens of the next.

We should see ourselves as foreigners in this materially focused, disconnected, and dying world. I am a citizen of the fifth age. If you have found your way to this site, you likely have a desire to be one as well. So we will learn, grow, and awaken together. Join me on the journey?

Have you ever run across something new in your life that completely changed everything? Something that made you see yourself and the world in a completely new way? Something that gave you a see perspective and a new hope?

Well, I recently found that and I can tell you that is the most amazing feeling I have ever experienced in my life. I have encountered something that resonates so deeply with who I am that it is undeniable. I already know that my life will never be the same?

What, you are certainly asking, could possibly do all of this? What is it?

My future. I came face to face with my future.

I will tell you in what form, but first you must understand something about me. All my life, even as a young child, I have been searching for something. The problem is I never knew what. I just always had this sense that I was meant to be doing something meaningful, meant to do something that would make an impact on the world, meant to do something that would bring me joy and peace.

But I could never find it. Not only could I not find it, the absence of it made me miserable. I was constantly searching for it in all the wrong places. Men, career, religion. I was constantly trying to pour all of my untapped energy and drive into something. So I tried everything, jumping from job to job, place to place, venture to venture, relationship to relationship. All of this only caused me more pain and in every case left me empty and lonely.

But I keep picking myself up and trying again. I keep looking, keep searching. Then it happened. I was in the bookstore looking for something that might trigger my interest. Years ago, while on my never-ending search I had developed an interest in numerology. So this particular day, I spotted a book on the subject and picked it up. But as I was perusing, something else unexpected caught my eye.

There was a book on the next shelf over that had the year 2012 written in big bold letters on it. Then next to it, I saw a different one, but is also said 2012. And another and another. A whole series of books about a particular year, but no other years. What was so special about 2012? I found it odd and curious.

So I picked up the book and read the back, then another and read the inside flap of it. From that point foward, my life has never been the same. For these books tell the story of my future and I have since come to understand that the ancient truths revealed in them are all that I have been searching for.

These truths are me. They are my past, present, and future. And I am excited to share what I learn along my journey with others.

In my next post I will share the meaning behind my titling my blog, “Fifth Age” and invite you to walk along with me on a very special path.
